Hoverfly

Hoverfly sunbathing on the balcony's solar light. Hoverflys have evolved so that their distinctive black and yellow banding makes them appear to be wasps - in order to deter potential predators. However, they are harmless and have no sting. The adults feed on pollen and nectar from flowers and their larvae are voracious eaters of the common garden "pests", aphids.
